VoiceThread is an interesting, dynamic, and interactive tool that I’ve found to be very effective in formative assessment. Essential questions are asked, students consider their response and then use onboard video or sound to record their thoughts onto a community forum. What I especially like is the way that students will often watch themselves, reconsider their original response, and then re-record themselves, writing a script to ensure that they’ve said all they have to say.
